Buildings and Energy

Meet your nation's Paris Agreement targets for CO2 reduction (by end of 2025)

Derive power solely from 100% clean renewable energy - generated onsite or procured through market mechanisms

Eliminate all onsite fossil-fuel combustion to heat buildings (except backup generators) (by end of 2028)

Build all new buildings to meet latest international energy efficiency standards (e.g. IECC, ASHRAE, ILFI)

Ensure existing buildings achieve an Energy Use Intensity (EUI) 35% below median (by end of 2025)

Water

Reduce use of municipal water by at least 25%

Reduce potable water for irrigation by at least 25%

Food Service

Ensure 40% of food service menu selections are vegan or vegetarian (by end of 2025)

Make 10% of all food purchases within 100-mile radius of site (by end of 2028)

Transportation

Offset carbon for all work-related staff travel (by end of 2028)

Make 25% of vehicle fleet electric (excluding tractors) (by end of 2028)

Incentivize employees to carpool, bike, bus or otherwise forgo single-occupant car transportation (by end of 2025)

Incentivize visitor sustainable travel (by end of 2028)

Waste

Eliminate all single-use plastic in food service, horticulture, gift shop, and all other facilities and operations (by end of 2025)

Compost 100% of food waste (by end of 2025)

Eliminate the sale and use of bottled water

Recycle or reuse all recyclable materials including metals, glass, and plastic (by end of 2025)

Landscapes and Horticulture

Ensure 25% of all lawn/garden maintenance equipment is electric (by end of 2028)

Ensure that 50% pesticides and fertilizers used are not derived from fossil fuels (by end of 2028)

Reduce lawn areas by 10% and encourage native plant replacements

Support reforestation to sequester carbon

Convert parking spaces into greenspaces to combat the rising temperature in cities

Investments

Divest from fossil fuel investments

Invest in socially responsible investments

Internal and External Engagement

Create an employee incentivization program for reducing emissions (by end of 2025)

Establish a green team to support employee-related climate action

Assist visitors in switching to household renewable energy (by end of 2028)

Educate visitors on sustainable, fossil-free horticulture

Educate visitors on growing organic food (by end of 2024)

Educate visitors on the impacts of food choices and waste on climate change (by end of 2025)

Teach facts and best practices to mitigate and reduce global climate change

Research
