The Houston Arboretum officially founded in 1967 has been a leader in the city of Houston in environmental education, and ecological restoration. We are a centrally located 155 acre green space that operates as a nature sanctuary. We promote native plants and help thousands of students each year connect with the environment. We host classes for children from ages 1-17 and have classes and volunteer opportunities for teenagers. I hope to connect and share ideas with other organizations that are looking to expand their programing in a meaningful way as well as collaborate on ideas with other environmental organizations. We have seen the positive impact over years of teaching students to appreciate and take ownership of their local environment, and this has led many former students to come back as reliable volunteers and interns.
