As BGCI’s Head of Education and Vocational training, Helen oversees BGCI’s education programs, which include providing training and support to botanic gardens in education and engagement best practice.

Lauren Garcia Chance

As Associate Director of Professional Development at APGA, Lauren’s interest in public gardens began during her undergraduate days when she first visited the Dallas Arboretum. The Association has provided Lauren so much in terms of networking, leadership, and knowledge and she is eager to communicate this opportunity to others. Lauren is currently pursuing her Ph.D. at Clemson University after receiving a dual degree Bachelors in Landscape Architecture and Horticulture and a Masters in Horticulture from Texas A&M University. Lauren has also participated in internships at Moore Farms Botanical Garden and Longwood Gardens.

Rose Hendricks, Ph.D.

Rose Hendricks, Ph.D. is the Executive Director of Seeding Action at the Association of Science and Technology Centers (ASTC). In this role, she leads the design and implementation of Seeding Action, an initiative led by ASTC to support science centers and museums in their planetary health public engagement work. Prior to this role, she led the development of the Science Society Engagement Network, which connects scientific associations in their efforts to equip scientists to communicate with policymakers and public audiences. She has also conducted research with the FrameWorks Institute, studying approaches for communicating about social and scientific issues

Rhonda Struminger, Ed.M., Ph.D.

Since 2005, Rhonda Struminger has served as the Co-Director of the Centro de Investigaciones Científicas de las Huastecas “Aguazarca” (CICHAZ), a research station in Calnali, Hidalgo, Mexico, with the mission to bring science and service together by promoting field work opportunities for the scientific community and developing education outreach programs. As the president of the 生物学フィールドステーションの組織 (OBFS, 2024 – 2026), Rhonda is committed to supporting field stations around the world in their efforts to support environmental research, education, and public understanding of science.

Elizabeth Merritt

Elizabeth is AAM’s vice president for strategic foresight, and founding director of the Center for the Future of Museums—a think-tank and research & development lab for the museum field. She is the author of the Alliance’s annual TrendsWatch report, and writes and speaks prolifically on the trends shaping the future of nonprofit organizations. (M.A. Duke University, B.S.
