En betydande m\u00e4ngd vatten g\u00e5r f\u00f6rlorat n\u00e4r det pumpas till olika anv\u00e4ndare inom distributionssystemet. Vattenbolag anv\u00e4nder el f\u00f6r att pumpa vatten genom sitt system och \u00e4r f\u00f6ljaktligen en av de st\u00f6rsta elf\u00f6rbrukarna. L\u00e4ckor och sprickor kan leda till att en betydande m\u00e4ngd vatten m\u00e5ste pumpas tillbaka genom r\u00f6ren f\u00f6r att ers\u00e4tta det som f\u00f6rlorats, vilket leder till att mer el anv\u00e4nds. Project Drawdown rekommenderar att man antingen anv\u00e4nder tryckhantering eller aktiv l\u00e4ckagedetektering f\u00f6r att \u00f6ka vatteneffektiviteten p\u00e5 campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>L\u00e4ckage<\/strong> kan uppt\u00e4ckas med hj\u00e4lp av olika metoder, bland annat vattenm\u00e4tning, l\u00e4ckagedetektering och tryckhantering. Om en organisation installerar tryckventiler kan l\u00e4ckor och sprickor uppt\u00e4ckas, inspekteras och t\u00e4tas. Om tryckstyrning och aktiv l\u00e4ckagedetektering anv\u00e4nds p\u00e5 r\u00e4tt s\u00e4tt kan Project Drawdown uppskatta att vattenf\u00f6rlusterna \"kan minskas med ytterligare 38-47 procent globalt fram till 2050\". Genom att minska spillvattnet kan man spara betydande kapital och samtidigt minska de nuvarande koldioxidutsl\u00e4ppen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><u>EPA:s effektivitetsstrategier: M\u00e4tning av vatten<\/u><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>EPA har sl\u00e4ppt en guide om b\u00e4sta praxis f\u00f6r vatteneffektivitet som inkluderar: Hantering av vattensystem, l\u00e4ckagehantering, m\u00e4tning, struktur f\u00f6r besparingsavgifter, analys av vattenbesparing och effektivitet vid slutanv\u00e4ndning samt plan f\u00f6r vattenbesparing och effektivitet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Vattenm\u00e4tning<\/strong> kan definieras som m\u00e4tning av vattenfl\u00f6det i ett system och \u00e4r utformat f\u00f6r att sp\u00e5ra och m\u00e4ta m\u00e4ngden vatten som anv\u00e4nds f\u00f6r bevattning och vattenbehandling. Vattenm\u00e4tning g\u00f6r det m\u00f6jligt f\u00f6r anv\u00e4ndare att f\u00f6rst\u00e5 hur mycket vatten de anv\u00e4nder och var de anv\u00e4nder det, vilket sedan hj\u00e4lper dem att l\u00e4gga upp strategier f\u00f6r hur de kan minska vattenanv\u00e4ndningen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><u>Phipps vintertr\u00e4dg\u00e5rd<\/u><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Att spara p\u00e5 vattnet \u00e4r avg\u00f6rande f\u00f6r att komma till r\u00e4tta med problemen med det kombinerade avloppssystemet i Pittsburgh. N\u00e4r det faller stora m\u00e4ngder nederb\u00f6rd br\u00e4ddar systemet avloppsvatten och regnvatten ut i de lokala floderna. Att spara allt vatten fr\u00e5n nederb\u00f6rd och \u00e5teranv\u00e4nda s\u00e5 mycket sanit\u00e4rt och kommunalt vatten som m\u00f6jligt \u00e4r viktigt f\u00f6r att f\u00f6rhindra detta. Phipps vattensystem \u00e4r uppdelat i tre sektioner: sanit\u00e4rt, kommunalt och regnvatten. Phipps anv\u00e4nder regntunnor, regntr\u00e4dg\u00e5rdar och en lagun f\u00f6r att f\u00e5nga upp vatten. Vattnet som lagras anv\u00e4nds f\u00f6r att bevattna deras v\u00e4xter, vilket sparar dricksvatten i processen. Phipps \u00e5tervinner sanitetsvattnet fr\u00e5n de tre byggnaderna p\u00e5 det nedre campusomr\u00e5det genom att cirkulera vattnet genom en sedimenteringstank och sedan konstruera v\u00e5tmark och sandfilter. I det sista steget leds det renade vattnet f\u00f6rbi ett UV-ljus f\u00f6r att d\u00f6da eventuella patogener innan det \u00e5tercirkuleras f\u00f6r att spola toaletter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under 2012 installerades vattenm\u00e4tare p\u00e5 hela Phipps campus. Phipps vattenm\u00e4tningssystem \u00e4r utspritt i hela vintertr\u00e4dg\u00e5rden, vilket g\u00f6r att personalen kan rikta in sig p\u00e5 l\u00e4ckor och sprickor. Phipps Conservatory fokuserade p\u00e5 sin nuvarande infrastruktur f\u00f6r att f\u00f6rb\u00e4ttra sina vattensystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"688\" height=\"391\" src=\"https:\/\/climatetoolkit.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Water-Systems.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-461\" srcset=\"https:\/\/climatetoolkit.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Water-Systems.png 688w, https:\/\/climatetoolkit.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Water-Systems-300x170.png 300w, https:\/\/climatetoolkit.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Water-Systems-100x57.png 100w, https:\/\/climatetoolkit.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Water-Systems-150x85.png 150w, https:\/\/climatetoolkit.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Water-Systems-200x114.png 200w, https:\/\/climatetoolkit.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Water-Systems-450x256.png 450w, https:\/\/climatetoolkit.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Water-Systems-600x341.png 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 688px) 100vw, 688px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Med hj\u00e4lp av vattenm\u00e4tning kom Phipps fram till att man anv\u00e4nde totalt 12.050.000 liter vatten i hela vintertr\u00e4dg\u00e5rden under 2012. 53% av det totala vattnet anv\u00e4ndes f\u00f6r vattenfunktioner och processvatten och 44% av det totala vattnet anv\u00e4ndes f\u00f6r bevattning. Phipps ins\u00e5g att det fanns betydande ineffektivitet och sl\u00f6seri med vatten i deras system. I st\u00e4llet f\u00f6r att bygga om systemet helt fokuserade Phipps p\u00e5 att uppgradera den befintliga infrastrukturen. Planen gick ut p\u00e5 att ers\u00e4tta vattenspridare med modeller med styrkort, timers och niv\u00e5sensorer f\u00f6r att minska det totala vattenspillet. F\u00f6rutom vattenm\u00e4tning g\u00f6r styrkort det ocks\u00e5 m\u00f6jligt att enkelt identifiera l\u00e4ckor och sprickor. <strong>Vattenf\u00f6rbrukningen minskade p\u00e5 Phipps med 45% och sparade cirka<\/strong> <strong>5,5 miljoner liter vatten<\/strong>. Phipps forts\u00e4tter att f\u00f6rb\u00e4ttra system och teknik.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><u>Rekommendationer<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li>Phipps rekommenderar <strong>med hj\u00e4lp av <a href=\"http:\/\/living-future.org\/lbc\/about\">Living Building Challenge's vattenpetal<\/a><\/strong> f\u00f6r v\u00e4gledning om byggnation och befintliga efterinstallationer.<\/li><li><strong>Fokus p\u00e5 att minska m\u00e4ngden avloppsvatten <\/strong>p\u00e5 hela campus, inte de ekonomiska besparingarna!
