Meadowlark Botanical Gardens \u00e4r en 95 hektar stor offentlig tr\u00e4dg\u00e5rd under NOVA Parks-paraplyet i t\u00e4tbefolkade norra Virginia. Deras inhemska samling <strong>visar s\u00e4tt att minska anv\u00e4ndningen av bek\u00e4mpningsmedel och konstg\u00f6dsel<\/strong> och fungerar som ett pedagogiskt exempel p\u00e5 begr\u00e4nsning av produkter som h\u00e4rr\u00f6r fr\u00e5n fossila br\u00e4nslen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><u>Kan du ber\u00e4tta f\u00f6r oss hur du hanterar skadedjur och invasiva v\u00e4xter utomhus och inomhus?<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Vi anv\u00e4nder begr\u00e4nsat med bek\u00e4mpningsmedel, g\u00f6dningsmedel och herbicider och fokuserar p\u00e5 principerna f\u00f6r integrerad skadedjursbek\u00e4mpning (IPM). IPM \u00e4r ett effektivt tillv\u00e4gag\u00e5ngss\u00e4tt som omfattar fysiska, biologiska, kulturella eller (som en sista utv\u00e4g) kemiska kontroller f\u00f6r att hantera skadedjur och invasiva arter och \u00f6ka v\u00e4xternas tillv\u00e4xt. Vi fokuserar p\u00e5 att f\u00f6rebygga skadedjur p\u00e5 l\u00e5ng sikt genom att \u00f6vervaka och vidta korrigerande \u00e5tg\u00e4rder vid behov. Genom att begr\u00e4nsa m\u00e4ngden produkter vi anv\u00e4nder ser vi f\u00f6rdelar, bland annat l\u00e4gre kostnader f\u00f6r kemikalier och de avgifter som \u00e4r f\u00f6rknippade med dem (lagring, frakt, avfallshantering), minskade risker p\u00e5 fastigheten och minskat behov av extrem skyddsutrustning. Till att b\u00f6rja med h\u00f6ll v\u00e5rt team en diskussion om tr\u00f6skelv\u00e4rden f\u00f6r insekter. Det kan vara visuella indikatorer som skador p\u00e5 v\u00e4xter p\u00e5 grund av insekter, sekund\u00e4ra infektioner p\u00e5 grund av insekter (t.ex. sotig m\u00f6gel) eller antal synliga skadedjur p\u00e5 en v\u00e4xt. Vi diskuterade ocks\u00e5 f\u00f6rdelarna med insekter i ekosystemet, f\u00f6r om inget \u00e4ter din v\u00e4xt \u00e4r den inte en del av ekosystemet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Efter diskussionen utv\u00e4rderade vi vilka skadeinsekter som fanns i v\u00e5ra odlingsanl\u00e4ggningar med hj\u00e4lp av klisterf\u00e4llor och andra visuella ledtr\u00e5dar. Vi anv\u00e4nder ekologiska bek\u00e4mpningsmedel med de aktiva ingredienserna<strong> Kaliumsalter av fettsyror<\/strong> eller <strong>vin\u00e4ger f\u00f6r tr\u00e4dg\u00e5rdsodling-isopropylalkohol-Safer-S\u00e5pa<\/strong>. Om det finns ett utbrott av skadeinsekter stoppar vi applikationerna och sl\u00e4pper ut l\u00e4mpliga <strong>biologiska rovdjur<\/strong> f\u00f6r att minska antalet skadedjur. Vi forts\u00e4tter med detta under hela \u00e5ret med dagliga visuella unders\u00f6kningar och inspektioner av klisterf\u00e4llor. Att ha r\u00e4tt v\u00e4xt p\u00e5 r\u00e4tt plats har gjort det m\u00f6jligt f\u00f6r oss att begr\u00e4nsa besprutningen med fungicider och insekticider. Utomhus \u00e4r skadedjuren fr\u00e4mst d\u00e4ggdjur som orsakar ol\u00e4genheter. N\u00e4r vi f\u00f6rst b\u00f6rjade minska anv\u00e4ndningen av bek\u00e4mpningsmedel och g\u00f6dningsmedel observerade vi v\u00e5ra v\u00e4xter och den omgivande milj\u00f6n. Vi st\u00e4llde fr\u00e5gor som t.ex, <em>beh\u00f6ver alla dessa v\u00e4xter g\u00f6dselmedel? Beh\u00f6ver de alla samma n\u00e4rings\u00e4mnen? Om vi applicerade n\u00e4rings\u00e4mnen, vart skulle \u00f6verskottet g\u00e5?<\/em> Som en del av <strong>Chesapeake Bay vattendelare<\/strong> och med <strong>tre stora sj\u00f6ar p\u00e5 fastigheten<\/strong>Vi \u00e4r extremt f\u00f6rsiktiga och f\u00f6redrar produkter som \u00e4r bra f\u00f6r v\u00e4xterna och som begr\u00e4nsar effekterna p\u00e5 milj\u00f6n och vattenlevande djur. N\u00e4r vi unders\u00f6ker potentiella produkter l\u00e4ser vi alltid etiketten f\u00f6rst f\u00f6r att se vilka de aktiva ingredienserna \u00e4r. Vi v\u00e4ger f\u00f6r- och nackdelar med att anv\u00e4nda starka kemikalier i landskapet och tar h\u00e4nsyn till s\u00e4kerheten f\u00f6r personal, g\u00e4ster och det lokala ekosystemet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><u>Hur ers\u00e4tter du g\u00f6dselmedel p\u00e5 ditt campus?<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Varje v\u00e5r och h\u00f6st l\u00e4gger vi p\u00e5 stora m\u00e4ngder l\u00f6vmull och kompost i v\u00e5ra tr\u00e4dg\u00e5rdsland f\u00f6r att begr\u00e4nsa m\u00e4ngden g\u00f6dningsmedel. Komposten som anv\u00e4nds i tr\u00e4dg\u00e5rdarna \u00e4r en blandning av egen kompost och kompost fr\u00e5n kommunen. L\u00e4nets kompost best\u00e5r av vegetativa material som samlas in genom insamling av l\u00f6v och annat gr\u00f6nt avfall i l\u00e4net. <strong>Mulch av l\u00f6v<\/strong> \u00e4r precis vad det l\u00e5ter som: nedfallna l\u00f6v som samlas in fr\u00e5n fastigheten och f\u00e5r tid att brytas ned under ett \u00e5r. Det skapas p\u00e5 plats - vilket minskar utsl\u00e4ppen av fossila br\u00e4nslen som skapas av transporter. Vi har ocks\u00e5 flera sm\u00e5skaliga <strong>Avfallsbeh\u00e5llare f\u00f6r vermikultur<\/strong> f\u00f6r v\u00e5r personals k\u00f6ksavfall och pappersavfall. Vi kan anv\u00e4nda material fr\u00e5n v\u00e5ra tr\u00e4dg\u00e5rdar f\u00f6r att g\u00f6ra jordf\u00f6rb\u00e4ttringsmedel i st\u00e4llet f\u00f6r att sl\u00e4nga det utanf\u00f6r anl\u00e4ggningen. Detta minskar ocks\u00e5 v\u00e5rt behov av att anv\u00e4nda bek\u00e4mpningsmedel \u00f6verlag. Inf\u00f6rlivandet av IPM-tekniker, korrekta tr\u00e4dg\u00e5rdsodlingstekniker och l\u00e4mplig v\u00e4xtplacering har varit avg\u00f6rande f\u00f6r att minska v\u00e5r anv\u00e4ndning av bek\u00e4mpningsmedel och g\u00f6dningsmedel som drivs med fossila br\u00e4nslen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Anv\u00e4nder Meadowlark Roundup p\u00e5 campus och om inte, hur hanterar ni ogr\u00e4s? <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Vi anv\u00e4nder inte Roundup p\u00e5 v\u00e5rt campus. Eftersom de flesta av v\u00e5ra sp\u00e5r \u00e4r asfalt (en hel konversation h\u00e4nder om det), har vi inte f\u00f6r m\u00e5nga ogr\u00e4s som v\u00e4xer i sprickorna. Vi drar hand ogr\u00e4s i trottoarerna \/ sprickorna i asfalten ett par g\u00e5nger om \u00e5ret, men \u00f6verlag hittar vi inte ett behov av det. Vi har pratat om \"organiska\" ers\u00e4ttare som vin\u00e4ger, men har inte g\u00e5tt den v\u00e4gen \u00e4nnu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><u>Var kan institutioner b\u00f6rja minska sina bek\u00e4mpningsmedel och g\u00f6dningsmedel som h\u00e4rr\u00f6r fr\u00e5n fossila br\u00e4nslen?<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>F\u00f6r institutioner som utv\u00e4rderar var de kan minska anv\u00e4ndningen av bek\u00e4mpningsmedel och g\u00f6dningsmedel som h\u00e4rr\u00f6r fr\u00e5n fossila br\u00e4nslen, titta p\u00e5 din <strong>aktuell g\u00f6dslings- och skadedjursbek\u00e4mpningsregim<\/strong>.
