The SiempreViva San Quintin field station’s mission is to carry out actions related to environmental protection, safeguarding the region’s flora and fauna, and preserving the integrity of the region’s diverse ecosystems to improve the living conditions of different communities. Our vision is that research and integrated educational programs maintain the integrity, health, and harmony of the different ecosystems in the Baja California region. This is of utmost importance in the face of climate change scenarios in which coastal ecosystems will begin to undergo significant changes and cease providing the ecosystem services they currently offer due to the various changes and pressures they will face. The field station is developing local-scale biological baseline projects to help understand these changes and minimize the effects of climate change.
It is the first research field station in the Mediterranean region of northwest Mexico and will be a benchmark in the creation of projects. What we hope to gain from this community are learnings, knowledge, and tools that we can apply and combine to be more effective in implementation and decision-making.
