A IPM \u00e9 uma abordagem eficaz que incorpora controlos f\u00edsicos, biol\u00f3gicos, culturais ou (como \u00faltimo recurso) qu\u00edmicos para gerir pragas e esp\u00e9cies invasoras e impulsionar o crescimento das plantas. Concentramo-nos na preven\u00e7\u00e3o a longo prazo das pragas, monitorizando e utilizando ac\u00e7\u00f5es corretivas, se necess\u00e1rio. Para come\u00e7ar, a nossa equipa realizou um debate sobre os limiares dos insectos. Estes podem ser indicadores visuais, tais como danos nas plantas devido a insectos, infec\u00e7\u00f5es secund\u00e1rias devido a insectos (tais como bolor fuliginoso) ou n\u00famero de pragas vis\u00edveis numa planta. Tamb\u00e9m discutimos os benef\u00edcios dos insectos no ecossistema, porque se nada estiver a comer a sua planta, ent\u00e3o ela n\u00e3o faz parte do ecossistema.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Depois de discutirmos, avali\u00e1mos as pragas de insectos presentes nas nossas instala\u00e7\u00f5es de cultivo atrav\u00e9s de armadilhas pegajosas e outras pistas visuais. Utilizamos pesticidas org\u00e2nicos com os ingredientes activos de<strong> sais de pot\u00e1ssio de \u00e1cidos gordos<\/strong> ou <strong>vinagre de horticultura-\u00e1lcool isoprop\u00edlico-Safer-Soap<\/strong>. Se houver um surto de pragas de insectos, interrompemos as aplica\u00e7\u00f5es e libertamos os <strong>predadores biol\u00f3gicos<\/strong> para reduzir o n\u00famero de pragas. Continuamos este regime ao longo do ano, com inspec\u00e7\u00f5es visuais di\u00e1rias e inspec\u00e7\u00f5es com armadilhas adesivas. Ter a planta certa no lugar certo permitiu-nos limitar a pulveriza\u00e7\u00e3o de fungicidas e insecticidas. No exterior, as pragas preocupantes s\u00e3o principalmente os inc\u00f3modos dos mam\u00edferos. Quando come\u00e7\u00e1mos a reduzir os pesticidas e os fertilizantes, observ\u00e1mos as nossas plantas e o ambiente circundante. Coloc\u00e1mos quest\u00f5es como, <em>todas estas plantas precisam de fertilizante? Ser\u00e1 que todas elas precisam dos mesmos nutrientes? Se aplic\u00e1ssemos nutrientes, para onde iria o excesso?<\/em> No \u00e2mbito do <strong>Bacia hidrogr\u00e1fica da Ba\u00eda de Chesapeake<\/strong> e com <strong>tr\u00eas grandes lagos na propriedade<\/strong>Por isso, usamos de extrema cautela, dando prefer\u00eancia a produtos que sejam ben\u00e9ficos para as plantas e que limitem o efeito no ambiente e na vida selvagem aqu\u00e1tica. Quando pesquisamos potenciais produtos, lemos sempre primeiro o r\u00f3tulo para ver quais s\u00e3o os ingredientes activos. Pesamos os pr\u00f3s e os contras da aplica\u00e7\u00e3o de produtos qu\u00edmicos agressivos na paisagem, tendo em conta a seguran\u00e7a do pessoal, dos h\u00f3spedes e do ecossistema local.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><u>Como \u00e9 que substitui o fertilizante no seu campus?<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Todas as Primaveras e Outonos, aplicamos quantidades saud\u00e1veis de cobertura vegetal e composto nos canteiros das nossas hortas para limitar a quantidade de fertilizante. A cobertura vegetal utilizada nos jardins \u00e9 uma mistura de composto local e do munic\u00edpio. O composto do munic\u00edpio \u00e9 composto por materiais vegetativos recolhidos atrav\u00e9s da recolha de folhas e outros res\u00edduos verdes no munic\u00edpio. <strong>Cobertura vegetal de folhas<\/strong> \u00e9 exatamente o que parece: folhas ca\u00eddas recolhidas na propriedade e que t\u00eam tempo para se decompor durante um ano. \u00c9 criado no local - reduzindo as emiss\u00f5es de combust\u00edveis f\u00f3sseis criadas pelo transporte. A incorpora\u00e7\u00e3o de t\u00e9cnicas IPM, t\u00e9cnicas hort\u00edcolas corretas e a coloca\u00e7\u00e3o adequada de plantas t\u00eam sido fundamentais para reduzir a nossa utiliza\u00e7\u00e3o de pesticidas e fertilizantes movidos a combust\u00edveis f\u00f3sseis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Meadowlark utiliza Roundup no campus e, em caso negativo, como \u00e9 que gerem as ervas daninhas? <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>N\u00e3o usamos Roundup no nosso campus. Uma vez que a maior parte dos nossos trilhos s\u00e3o de asfalto (est\u00e1 a decorrer toda uma conversa sobre isso), n\u00e3o temos muitas ervas daninhas a crescer nas fendas. Arrancamos manualmente as ervas daninhas nos passeios\/rachas no asfalto algumas vezes por ano, mas, de um modo geral, n\u00e3o temos necessidade de o fazer. J\u00e1 fal\u00e1mos de substitutos \"org\u00e2nicos\", como o vinagre, mas ainda n\u00e3o seguimos esse caminho.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><u>Por onde podem as institui\u00e7\u00f5es come\u00e7ar a reduzir os seus pesticidas e fertilizantes derivados de combust\u00edveis f\u00f3sseis?<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Para as institui\u00e7\u00f5es que est\u00e3o a avaliar onde podem reduzir a utiliza\u00e7\u00e3o de pesticidas e fertilizantes derivados de combust\u00edveis f\u00f3sseis, veja o seu <strong>regime atual de fertiliza\u00e7\u00e3o e controlo de pragas<\/strong>.
