Botanica, The Wichita Gardens, experiences climate change directly through prolonged drought, extreme temperature swings, and shifting growing conditions that impact our living collections and operations. In response, we are advancing initiatives like the Water Journey Project to model water conservation, reuse, and climate-resilient landscape design for our region. Through the Phipps Climate Toolkit community, we hope to strengthen our strategies around water stewardship and waste reduction while learning from peer institutions and contributing scalable, place-based solutions. As a highly visible public garden serving over 350,000 visitors annually, we are uniquely positioned to translate climate action into tangible, educational experiences that inspire behavioral change and community-wide impact.
