L'utilisation de la lutte int\u00e9gr\u00e9e contre les parasites, de techniques agricoles biologiques, de pesticides et d'engrais non fossiles et de plantes rustiques\/indig\u00e8nes peut r\u00e9duire de mani\u00e8re significative la pollution chimique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nous avons contact\u00e9 <strong>Charlie Bruce, Sara Do, <\/strong>et <strong>Chelsea Mahaffey<\/strong> de Meadowlark Botanical Gardens pour expliquer comment ils ont r\u00e9duit leur utilisation de pesticides et d'engrais. Meadowlark Botanical Gardens est un jardin public de 95 acres situ\u00e9 sous l'\u00e9gide de NOVA Parks, dans la r\u00e9gion dens\u00e9ment peupl\u00e9e de la Virginie du Nord. Meadowlark tire une grande fiert\u00e9 de la gestion de ses terres et vise \u00e0 devenir un centre communautaire o\u00f9 les visiteurs peuvent d\u00e9couvrir les plantes indig\u00e8nes de leur r\u00e9gion. La collection de la vall\u00e9e du Potomac de Meadowlark met en valeur les plantes indig\u00e8nes en fonction de la g\u00e9ographie et de la flore du bassin de la rivi\u00e8re Potomac, qui s'\u00e9tend sur plusieurs \u00c9tats. Leur collection de plantes indig\u00e8nes <strong>affiche des moyens de r\u00e9duire les pesticides et les engrais<\/strong> et sert d'exemple p\u00e9dagogique pour limiter les produits d\u00e9riv\u00e9s des combustibles fossiles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><u>Pouvez-vous nous dire comment vous g\u00e9rez les nuisibles et les plantes envahissantes \u00e0 l'ext\u00e9rieur et \u00e0 l'int\u00e9rieur ?<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Nous utilisons peu de pesticides, d'engrais et d'herbicides, en nous concentrant sur les principes de la lutte int\u00e9gr\u00e9e contre les parasites (IPM). La lutte int\u00e9gr\u00e9e est une approche efficace qui incorpore des contr\u00f4les physiques, biologiques, culturels ou (en dernier recours) chimiques pour g\u00e9rer les parasites et les esp\u00e8ces envahissantes et stimuler la croissance des plantes. Nous nous concentrons sur la pr\u00e9vention \u00e0 long terme des parasites en surveillant et en appliquant des mesures correctives si n\u00e9cessaire. En limitant la quantit\u00e9 de produits que nous utilisons, nous constatons des avantages tels que la r\u00e9duction des d\u00e9penses en produits chimiques et des frais qui y sont associ\u00e9s (stockage, exp\u00e9dition, \u00e9limination), la r\u00e9duction des risques sur la propri\u00e9t\u00e9 et la diminution du besoin d'\u00e9quipement de protection extr\u00eame. Pour commencer, notre \u00e9quipe a tenu une discussion sur les seuils d'insectes. Il peut s'agir d'indicateurs visuels tels que les dommages caus\u00e9s aux plantes par les insectes, les infections secondaires dues aux insectes (comme la moisissure fuligineuse) ou le nombre de parasites visibles sur une plante. Nous avons \u00e9galement discut\u00e9 des avantages des insectes dans l'\u00e9cosyst\u00e8me, car si rien ne mange votre plante, elle ne fait pas partie de l'\u00e9cosyst\u00e8me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Apr\u00e8s avoir discut\u00e9, nous avons \u00e9valu\u00e9 les insectes nuisibles pr\u00e9sents dans nos installations de culture \u00e0 l'aide de pi\u00e8ges collants et d'autres indices visuels. Nous utilisons des pesticides biologiques contenant les ingr\u00e9dients actifs suivants<strong> sels de potassium d'acides gras<\/strong> ou <strong>vinaigre horticole-alcool isopropylique-Safer-Soap<\/strong>. En cas d'apparition d'insectes nuisibles, nous interrompons les applications et lib\u00e9rons les produits appropri\u00e9s. <strong>pr\u00e9dateurs biologiques<\/strong> pour r\u00e9duire le nombre de nuisibles. Nous poursuivons ce r\u00e9gime tout au long de l'ann\u00e9e avec des inspections visuelles quotidiennes et des inspections par pi\u00e8ges collants. Le fait d'avoir la bonne plante au bon endroit nous a permis de limiter les pulv\u00e9risations de fongicides et d'insecticides. \u00c0 l'ext\u00e9rieur, les ravageurs pr\u00e9occupants sont principalement des mammif\u00e8res nuisibles. Lorsque nous avons commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 r\u00e9duire les pesticides et les engrais, nous avons observ\u00e9 nos plantes et le milieu environnant. Nous avons pos\u00e9 des questions telles que <em>Toutes ces plantes ont-elles besoin d'engrais ? Ont-elles toutes besoin des m\u00eames nutriments ? Si nous appliquons des nutriments, o\u00f9 ira l'exc\u00e9dent ?<\/em> Dans le cadre de la <strong>Bassin versant de la baie de Chesapeake<\/strong> et avec <strong>trois grands lacs sur la propri\u00e9t\u00e9<\/strong>En ce qui concerne les produits phytosanitaires, nous faisons preuve d'une extr\u00eame prudence et privil\u00e9gions les produits qui sont b\u00e9n\u00e9fiques pour les plantes et qui limitent les effets sur l'environnement et la faune aquatique. Lorsque nous recherchons des produits potentiels, nous lisons toujours d'abord l'\u00e9tiquette pour voir quels sont les ingr\u00e9dients actifs. Nous pesons le pour et le contre de l'application de produits chimiques agressifs dans le paysage, en tenant compte de la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 du personnel, des visiteurs et de l'\u00e9cosyst\u00e8me local.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><u>Comment remplacez-vous les engrais sur votre campus ?<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Chaque printemps et chaque automne, nous appliquons de bonnes quantit\u00e9s de paillis de feuilles et de compost dans les plates-bandes de nos jardins afin de limiter la quantit\u00e9 d'engrais. Le paillis utilis\u00e9 dans les jardins est un m\u00e9lange de compost sur place et de compost du comt\u00e9. Le compost du comt\u00e9 est compos\u00e9 de mati\u00e8res v\u00e9g\u00e9tales recueillies lors de la collecte des feuilles et d'autres d\u00e9chets verts dans le comt\u00e9. <strong>Paillis de feuilles<\/strong> est exactement ce qu'il semble \u00eatre : des feuilles mortes collect\u00e9es sur la propri\u00e9t\u00e9 et ayant le temps de se d\u00e9composer pendant un an. Le compost est produit sur place, ce qui permet de r\u00e9duire les \u00e9missions de combustibles fossiles g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9es par le transport. Nous disposons \u00e9galement de plusieurs syst\u00e8mes de compostage \u00e0 petite \u00e9chelle. <strong>bacs de lombriculture<\/strong> pour les d\u00e9chets de cuisine et les d\u00e9chets de papier de notre personnel. Nous pouvons utiliser les mat\u00e9riaux de nos jardins pour fabriquer des amendements plut\u00f4t que de les jeter hors site. Cela r\u00e9duit \u00e9galement notre besoin d'appliquer des pesticides en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral. L'int\u00e9gration de techniques de lutte int\u00e9gr\u00e9e contre les parasites, de techniques horticoles appropri\u00e9es et d'un placement ad\u00e9quat des plantes a jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le essentiel dans la r\u00e9duction de notre utilisation de pesticides et d'engrais produits \u00e0 partir de combustibles fossiles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Est-ce que Meadowlark utilise du Roundup sur le campus et si non, comment g\u00e9rez-vous les mauvaises herbes ? <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Nous n'utilisons pas de Roundup sur notre campus. Comme la plupart de nos sentiers sont asphalt\u00e9s (il y a toute une discussion \u00e0 ce sujet), il n'y a pas beaucoup de mauvaises herbes qui poussent dans les fissures. Nous arrachons manuellement les mauvaises herbes sur les trottoirs et dans les fissures de l'asphalte quelques fois par an, mais dans l'ensemble, nous n'en avons pas besoin. Nous avons parl\u00e9 de substituts \"organiques\" comme le vinaigre, mais nous n'avons pas encore emprunt\u00e9 cette voie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><u>O\u00f9 les institutions peuvent-elles commencer \u00e0 r\u00e9duire leurs pesticides et engrais d\u00e9riv\u00e9s de combustibles fossiles ?<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Pour les institutions qui cherchent \u00e0 r\u00e9duire l'utilisation de pesticides et d'engrais d\u00e9riv\u00e9s de combustibles fossiles, il convient de se pencher sur les points suivants <strong>le r\u00e9gime actuel de fertilisation et de lutte contre les parasites<\/strong>. Remettez en question vos pratiques : <em>O\u00f9 puis-je remplacer l'application d'insecticides par des m\u00e9thodes de lutte biologique ? Est-ce que j'applique des fongicides parce que cette plante est plant\u00e9e dans des conditions ind\u00e9sirables ? Peut-on utiliser du compost pour remplacer les engrais chimiques dans les champs ? Peut-on recycler certaines mati\u00e8res v\u00e9g\u00e9tales sur place ?<\/em> Commencez modestement et faites des recherches sur les produits que vous utilisez actuellement. Trouvez des substituts si vous le pouvez et cherchez des changements mineurs \u00e0 apporter \u00e0 votre routine.
