Meadowlark Botanical Gardens es un jard\u00edn p\u00fablico de 95 acres que depende de NOVA Parks, en la densamente poblada Virginia del Norte. Meadowlark se enorgullece enormemente de la gesti\u00f3n del terreno y aspira a convertirse en un centro comunitario donde los visitantes puedan conocer las plantas aut\u00f3ctonas de su regi\u00f3n. La GIP es un enfoque eficaz que incorpora controles f\u00edsicos, biol\u00f3gicos, culturales o (como \u00faltimo recurso) qu\u00edmicos para gestionar las plagas y las especies invasoras y potenciar el crecimiento de las plantas. Nos centramos en la prevenci\u00f3n a largo plazo de las plagas mediante la vigilancia y la aplicaci\u00f3n de medidas correctoras en caso necesario. Al limitar la cantidad de productos que utilizamos, notamos beneficios como un menor gasto en productos qu\u00edmicos y las tasas asociadas a ellos (almacenamiento, env\u00edo, eliminaci\u00f3n), reducci\u00f3n de los peligros en la propiedad y menor necesidad de equipos de protecci\u00f3n extrema. Para empezar, nuestro equipo mantuvo un debate sobre los umbrales de insectos. Puede tratarse de indicadores visuales, como da\u00f1os en las plantas debidos a insectos, infecciones secundarias debidas a insectos (como el moho de holl\u00edn) o el n\u00famero de plagas visibles en una planta. Tambi\u00e9n hablamos de los beneficios de los insectos en el ecosistema, porque si nada se come tu planta, entonces no forma parte del ecosistema.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Despu\u00e9s de debatir, evaluamos qu\u00e9 plagas de insectos hab\u00eda en nuestras instalaciones de cultivo mediante trampas adhesivas y otros indicios visuales. Utilizamos pesticidas org\u00e1nicos con los ingredientes activos de<strong> sales pot\u00e1sicas de \u00e1cidos grasos<\/strong> o <strong>vinagre hort\u00edcola-alcohol isoprop\u00edlico-Safer-Soap<\/strong>. Si se produce un brote de plagas de insectos, detenemos las aplicaciones y liberamos los productos adecuados. <strong>depredadores biol\u00f3gicos<\/strong> para reducir el n\u00famero de plagas. Continuamos este r\u00e9gimen durante todo el a\u00f1o con inspecciones visuales diarias e inspecciones con trampas adhesivas. Cuando empezamos a reducir el uso de pesticidas y fertilizantes, observamos nuestras plantas y el entorno que las rodeaba. Nos hac\u00edamos preguntas como <em>\u00bfnecesitan abono todas estas plantas? \u00bfNecesitan todas los mismos nutrientes? Si aplic\u00e1ramos nutrientes, \u00bfad\u00f3nde ir\u00eda el exceso?<\/em> En el marco de la <strong>Cuenca hidrogr\u00e1fica de la bah\u00eda de Chesapeake<\/strong> y con <strong>tres grandes lagos en la propiedad<\/strong>Por ello, extremamos las precauciones y preferimos productos beneficiosos para las plantas y que limiten los efectos sobre el medio ambiente y la fauna acu\u00e1tica. Cuando investigamos posibles productos, siempre leemos primero la etiqueta para ver cu\u00e1les son los ingredientes activos. Sopesamos los pros y los contras de aplicar productos qu\u00edmicos agresivos en el paisaje, teniendo en cuenta la seguridad del personal, los hu\u00e9spedes y el ecosistema local.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><u>\u00bfC\u00f3mo se repone el abono en su campus?<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Cada primavera y oto\u00f1o, aplicamos cantidades saludables de mantillo de hojas y compost en los lechos de nuestros jardines para limitar la cantidad de fertilizante. El mantillo utilizado en los jardines es una mezcla de compost local y del condado. El compost del condado se compone de materiales vegetales recogidos a trav\u00e9s de la recogida de hojas y otros residuos verdes en el condado. <strong>Mantillo de hojas<\/strong> es exactamente lo que parece: hojas ca\u00eddas que se recogen en la propiedad y se dejan descomponer durante un a\u00f1o. Se crea in situ, lo que reduce las emisiones de combustibles f\u00f3siles generadas por el transporte. Tambi\u00e9n tenemos varias plantas a peque\u00f1a escala <strong>cubos de vermicultura<\/strong> para los restos de cocina y los residuos de papel de nuestro personal. Podemos utilizar los materiales de nuestros jardines para acondicionar el suelo en lugar de desecharlos. Esto tambi\u00e9n reduce nuestra necesidad de aplicaciones de plaguicidas en general. La incorporaci\u00f3n de t\u00e9cnicas de gesti\u00f3n integrada de plagas, t\u00e9cnicas hort\u00edcolas adecuadas y la colocaci\u00f3n apropiada de las plantas han sido fundamentales para reducir el uso de pesticidas y fertilizantes que utilizan combustibles f\u00f3siles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u00bfUtiliza Meadowlark Roundup en el campus y, en caso negativo, c\u00f3mo controla las malas hierbas? <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>No utilizamos Roundup en nuestro campus. Dado que la mayor\u00eda de nuestros senderos son de asfalto (toda una conversaci\u00f3n al respecto), no tenemos demasiadas malas hierbas que crecen en las grietas. Un par de veces al a\u00f1o arrancamos a mano las malas hierbas de las aceras y las grietas del asfalto, pero en general no lo necesitamos. Hemos hablado de sustitutos \"org\u00e1nicos\" como el vinagre, pero a\u00fan no lo hemos utilizado.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><u>\u00bfPor d\u00f3nde pueden empezar las instituciones a reducir sus pesticidas y fertilizantes derivados de combustibles f\u00f3siles?<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Para las instituciones que eval\u00faan d\u00f3nde pueden reducir el uso de pesticidas y fertilizantes derivados de combustibles f\u00f3siles, f\u00edjese en su <strong>r\u00e9gimen actual de fertilizaci\u00f3n y control de plagas<\/strong>. Cuestiona tus pr\u00e1cticas: <em>\u00bfD\u00f3nde puedo sustituir la aplicaci\u00f3n de insecticidas por m\u00e9todos de control biol\u00f3gico? \u00bfAplico fungicidas porque esta planta est\u00e1 plantada en condiciones indeseables? \u00bfPodemos utilizar compost para sustituir los fertilizantes qu\u00edmicos en el campo? \u00bfPodemos reciclar determinados materiales vegetales in situ?<\/em> Empiece poco a poco e investigue los productos que utiliza actualmente. Encuentra sustitutos si puedes y busca peque\u00f1os cambios en tu rutina.
