In den 1960er Jahren kaufte Ethel Dubois eine Farm in Leverett, um dort ein Sommercamp und eine Naturbildungseinrichtung f\u00fcr Kinder mit geringem Einkommen einzurichten. Aufgrund des wachsenden Interesses zog das Programm in den 1970er Jahren in die Larch Hill Conservation Area um und vergr\u00f6\u00dferte seine Reichweite in der Gemeinde. Heute, 65 Jahre sp\u00e4ter, setzt das Hitchcock Center sein \u00f6kologisches Erbe fort und konzentriert sich auf die F\u00f6rderung eines tieferen Verst\u00e4ndnisses f\u00fcr die Umwelt, w\u00e4hrend es den Besuchern hilft, einen umweltfreundlichen Lebensstil zu entwickeln.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0Um eine Gemeinschaft von umweltbewussten Menschen zu kultivieren, beginnt das Hitchcock Center damit, junge Menschen durch Initiativen wie das <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hitchcockcenter.org\/youth-climate-stories\/\">Jugend-Klima-Projekt<\/a>. Dieses 2025 ins Leben gerufene Programm bringt Jugendliche im Alter von 10 bis 18 Jahren zusammen, um ihre Geschichten und Erfahrungen mit dem Klimawandel zu teilen und ihnen eine Plattform zu bieten, um ihre Bedenken zu \u00e4u\u00dfern und zum Handeln anzuregen. Dieses Gipfeltreffen schafft einen Raum f\u00fcr eine offene Kommunikation zwischen Jugendlichen aus dem gesamten Nordosten, in dem sie ihre unterschiedlichen Erfahrungen mit dem Klimawandel austauschen k\u00f6nnen. Im Jahr 2019 erhielt das Geb\u00e4ude des Zentrums die Living Building-Zertifizierung und ist damit das vierte seiner Art in Massachusetts und ein Vorreiter in Sachen Nachhaltigkeit in der Region. Um dies zu erreichen, arbeitet das Zentrum an der Umsetzung einer umweltgerechten Bildung in Schulen und Gemeinden. Dazu geh\u00f6rt der Ausbau des Jugendnetzwerks, um mehr Kinder zu bef\u00e4higen, sich f\u00fcr den Klimaschutz einzusetzen, die Bereitstellung von Ressourcen f\u00fcr die berufliche Entwicklung und von Lehrpl\u00e4nen f\u00fcr P\u00e4dagogen sowie die Nutzung des Living Building, um Nachhaltigkeit auf greifbare und sichtbare Weise zu pr\u00e4sentieren.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dar\u00fcber hinaus setzt sich das Hitchcock Center daf\u00fcr ein, dass seine Umweltl\u00f6sungen alle Gemeinschaften anerkennen und ihnen zugute kommen.
