Dunn Gardens recognizes the important role that public gardens and historic landscapes can play in addressing climate change through sustainable land stewardship, education, and habitat conservation. We cultivate native plants that support pollinators and wildlife, maintain chemical-free lawns, compost garden waste into mulch, and have transitioned from gas-powered landscaping equipment to electric alternatives to reduce emissions, noise, and pollution. We also prioritize sustainable operations through recycling, composting, and environmentally responsible purchasing.
Through this community, we hope to learn from and collaborate with others who are developing innovative approaches to climate resilience, sustainability, and environmental education. We are particularly interested in sharing best practices for managing historic landscapes in environmentally responsible ways while engaging the public in climate-conscious stewardship.
We are best positioned to make a difference through our role as both a living landscape and an educational resource. By demonstrating sustainable gardening practices, promoting urban tree canopy and habitat restoration, and inspiring visitors to adopt climate-friendly practices in their own communities, we can help translate environmental awareness into meaningful action.
